The dog is the protector of the home and family. Karin Freeman Dewet, George Dewet

young daughters, in case anyone thought to kidnap them. At first, this seems like a very reasonable idea. In fact, when doing such this woman would have put herself at great risk. In the situation in question, the probability of an accident is very high. Imagine that one of the girls fell down and cried, and one of the neighbors rushed to her to calm the baby. How does a dog know that a person is acting from the best of intentions? A dog is not capable of distinguishing bad people from good people, as our client naively believed. The yard is a public place, and the dog has nothing to do there without a leash or without constant control over it by the owner.

Train or not?
Many owners do not want to train their Rottweilers, German Shepherds, etc. because they are afraid of responsibility or they think that their dog is already aggressive enough. In both cases, we are dealing with a misconception about training, and besides, not everyone can be the owner of a real guard dog. In fact, as a result of proper training, the dog learns to recognize those situations when its aggressive behavior is necessary and when it is not. Almost half of the training is based on educating the dog in obedience and teaching it to show aggression only on command. The common belief that a dog becomes more independent when properly trained is a myth.

On the contrary, if training is done incorrectly and does not prioritize obedience and obedience to commands, then in this case you will have a truly independent dog. That is why it is so important to be careful when choosing a trainer (see chapter III).

An untrained dog is an unpredictable dog. Danger is any breed whose natural function is protection. We firmly believe that you will not be able to use your dog's defensive abilities if he is not trained to do so. If the conditioned reflexes inherent in the hen are not properly encouraged, at a dangerous moment the dog can react in two ways - fight or run away. In 75% of cases, untrained dogs prefer the latter.

On the other hand, there are dogs that are naturally endowed with a cocky character. They are ready to pounce on the first comer, and you are powerless to do anything about it. In this case, you have a truly independent dog - naughty and uncontrollable. It's quite unpleasant when a little dog is everywhere. runs around and tries to bite everyone. But if this is a dog weighing 60 kilograms, everything is much more serious and can end in someone's injury, or even death. We believe that every dog - both large and small - should definitely undergo an obedience training course (general training course). Believe me, this will prevent many misfortunes.

Most dogs are at the same level of mental and emotional development as a three year old. Like a child, they need to be properly educated and taught everything necessary. Therefore, before you get a service breed dog, first weigh and think about whether you can be its owner.

If your pet attacks people on the street for no reason, it is no longer a guard dog, but simply untrained, unrestrained and vicious. Such a creature will ruin your life and bring grief to others.

A real guard dog is an animal carefully bred, skillfully selected, trained and trained, enjoying the love and respect of all households. The loss of such a dog leaves the whole family feeling vulnerable and insecure, deprived of the sense of comfort, peace and security that her presence provided. If you once had the good fortune to own such a dog, you will no longer be able to live without it.

Chapter Two
Responsibility and legality
Usually, when it comes to service dogs, a creature with a bared, toothy mouth appears in our imagination. On the one hand, without this, the dog could not protect you, since its very appearance or growl can only warn the criminal from a possible attack, which is often not enough. On the other hand, it is this image that lives in our minds that leads many to be afraid to get a service breed dog.

We have been training service dogs for a long time and feel it our duty to warn the reader about the difficulties involved in owning such dogs. But we want to draw a clear line between prejudice and misinterpreted facts. We are ready to prove that most of the attacks that service breed dogs are subjected to are only untrained dogs.

The next time you hear another accusation against some service breed dog, be sure to ask: “Is she trained or not?” This moment is fundamental, since most people classify dogs exclusively by breed. Many, for example, tend to treat their German Shepherds like police dogs, even though they do not serve in the police at all and have not been trained to do so.

Does our responsibility increase when owning a guard dog? We are often asked about this, and we invariably answer: “Yes!” But it cannot be otherwise. If you, say, buy a house, don't you have more trouble? It is in the order of things that the owner of a house, car, weapon or guard dog is responsible for what he owns. If you run over someone while driving a car, you are legally liable, not your car. In the same way, you are responsible for your dog if it harms someone.

It is illegal and dangerous to walk your dog without a leash in public places where he may bite another dog or person, or tear someone's clothes, etc. The dog's place is in the house or outside the fence of your site, which should be high enough to to prevent small children and unwanted guests from entering the territory protected by it. In some states, the law requires warning signs to be posted wherever a dog is allowed to enter a property.

Simply put, if you're not ready to take responsibility for your dog, don't get one. For a person who does not want such responsibility or is afraid of it, it is better not to have any dog, and even more so a service dog.

Proper handling of a dog
A dog should be treated in exactly the same way as a two or three year old child. It goes without saying that, for safety reasons, you will not allow a toddler at this age to roam the street alone. Why should you let your dog do this?

Usually people give the following reasons that prevent them from keeping a dog in their area:

- the site is too large, and it can not be surrounded by a reliable fence;

- there are gaps in the fence;

- the dog digs under the fence;

- The children let the dog out.

There is one way to solve all problems at once: to equip a special enclosure. If you are unable to keep track of the dog, you can keep it there. For such an aviary, it is quite enough to enclose a rectangle measuring 1.5 by 6 meters and the walls are 2 meters high, but always on a concrete foundation.

How can a dog protect you while in an enclosure? It’s better to ask how she will do it if she constantly runs away and can get hit by a car at any moment. Make sure in advance that the dog learns to live in the yard, since you do not want to keep it at home. If she does not run away, you will not need any enclosure (see chapter VI).

Registration of dogs
In most cities, it is mandatory to register dogs living within their boundaries. Registration makes it easier to spot a dog if it has been picked up by the city's health services. You can register a dog at the nearest police station or special services, and you will need to present a certificate of vaccination against rabies and pay a purely nominal registration tax. The veterinary services often go to houses to check the number of dogs living in them and check their registration. If your dog is not registered or picked up by the health authorities, you will be fined. Dog laws vary from state to state and country to country, so it's important that you familiarize yourself with your city's dog policy.

Maximum number of dogs
Many local authorities limit the number of dogs that can live in one household, usually ranging from about four animals per person. You can purchase a dog breeder or kennel owner license, in which case the number of dogs in your care will be significantly higher than the standard norm.

Prohibited breeds
On August 12, 1991, a campaign began in the UK against the breeding, sale, exchange and advertising of pit bull terriers. Even earlier, three other fighting breeds were outlawed - Tosa Inu, Fila Brasileiro and Dogo Argentino. However, this does not mean that every dog belonging to one of the prohibited breeds and living in the UK or elsewhere is necessarily dangerous.

Many wonder how far this trend can go. Who will be next - Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans? If we say that any dog of these breeds is a threat, then with the same right we can say that any person of a certain nationality is dangerous. It seems to us that careful control over selection, the establishment of precise boundaries owner responsibility for their dog and increased attention to training issues is a much smarter way to solve the problem.
