Running in windy weather

Running in windy conditions can be a great workout if you approach it the right way. There are several challenges associated with running into the wind.
Dust and debris flying into the eyes
The biggest problem with wind for running lies precisely in the rising dust, which makes it difficult to breathe normally. No matter how you close, it will still penetrate your lungs. Unfortunately, there is a lot of dust in cities, and it is completely impossible to get rid of it. Therefore, the problem in the summer period affects all regions.
There is an option to run with a scarf wrapped around your face. But this will add a new problem – it will be more difficult to breathe even at the expense of the scarf itself.

So the only sure way to avoid big dust problems is to know where to run. Such places include the central streets of cities and sidewalks, which are regularly washed with watering machines. Forest paths, where the wind is usually the weakest due to the trees. And embankments, where the dust is very quickly blown onto the water. The last point is complicated by the fact that the strongest wind is in open areas. Therefore, running along the embankment is also not the best option.

wind force
With a light wind, problems for the runner cannot arise. But the strong wind is already beginning to set its own rules. The wind at your back makes it easier to run. But if you compare its benefits and the hindrances that it creates when you run against it, it becomes obvious that the wind interferes many times more than it helps.
In order to minimize the influence of the headwind, it is necessary to choose the right path for running. It is best to run most of the way sideways to the wind. In this case, he will not really help, but he will not interfere either. So try to build a route in the form of a rectangle, where the width will be where you run with or against the wind, and the length will be where you run perpendicular to the direction of the wind. The smaller your rectangle’s width, the better. The ideal option is a straight road, to which the wind blows perpendicularly. Then you can just run back and forth.
Clothing for running in windy conditions in different seasons of the year
Summer.
The wind in summer helps to calm the heat a little. Even if the air temperature has not dropped, the presence of air movement always has a positive effect on well-being. But if we are talking about running in a dusty area, especially where the dust is hard sand that hurts open areas of the body, then better to dress properly.

It is necessary to try to cover the open areas of the body with sports light pants and a turtleneck. Be sure to wear glasses. The eyes are the most vulnerable part of the body.
Autumn, spring
Running in windy weather in autumn and spring is not much different from running in summer under the same weather conditions. Except that, depending on the temperature outside, one or two turtlenecks, or even a sports jacket, should be worn. The rest is the same: sweatpants or leggings and glasses. Glasses, by the way, are best to wear those that fit the face. They are often called sports. Glasses on the principle of “dragonfly” will not work. Because the dust will be blown from above and below. It’s great to have glasses with changing lenses. Because in the evening it is simply impossible to run in dark glasses and it is necessary to have glasses with transparent lenses.
Winter
If running in windy weather is added to all the delights of running in the snow, then there are two tips:

1. Dress as warmly as possible in clothing that is as breathable as possible. That is, a bologna jacket and trousers. Be sure to have a scarf or a long collar. Glasses are not required, but recommended. In winter, if it is snowing outside, there is no dust. But if there is a blizzard, then getting snowflakes into the eyes at high speed will cause pain.
2. Stay at home. In winter, in cold weather, and even a strong wind, running can bring pleasure to few people. Only the most notorious runners. If you do not yet consider yourself as such, and only a novice runner, then it is better to stay at home warm and wait out the weather. The wind usually ends in a day.

You can run in windy weather. But usually the wind hinders rather than helps. Therefore, only those who, on the contrary, like to overcome as many obstacles in their path as possible, will enjoy running into the wind. For the rest, who love easy and calm running, running into the wind threatens only with unnecessary difficulties and nerves.
