Goyang

Goyang (Korean: 고양시?, 高陽市?, Goyang-si) is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Goyang includes the Ilsan municipality, which is connected to Seoul by a subway line.

History
During the era of the Three States, the area where the city is now located belonged to the state of Silla. At that time, the districts (hyeons) of Kobong, Wuwan and Gaebek were located here. Later, during the Goryeo period, this territory was divided between the districts of Gobong and Togyang. In 1413, Goyang received its modern name and administrative status as hyeon. In 1471, Goyang was given the administrative status of a county (kun or gong). In 1949, the Eunpyeong, Sungin, and Ttukdo districts (myeons) were merged into Seoul. City status was obtained in 1992. In 1996, Togyan and Ilsan municipalities were formed.

Geography
Goyang is a satellite city of Seoul, located along its northern border. In the east it borders with the city of Yangju, in the north – with Paju, in the west – with Gimpo.
