Australian dollar (AUD), equal to 100 cents. In circulation are banknotes in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 dollars, as well as coins of 1, 2 dollars and 50, 20, 10 and 5 cents.
Banks and currency exchange
Banks are usually open from Monday to Thursday, from 9.30 to 16.00, on Fridays – from 9.30 to 17:00. Saturday, Sunday and the so-called Bank Day are days off.

It is better to exchange currency in banks and exchange offices of the airport or hotel in Australia before leaving the island. You can exchange currency on the spot at most banks and specialized exchange offices (Bureau de Change). The island has branches of two Australian banks – Westpac Bank and Commonwealth Bank.

Credit cards are accepted for payment at Australian bank branches in Burnt Pine, Kingston or Port of Quescade. Commonwealth Bank has an ATM for cashing out credit and debit cards. Traveler’s checks can be cashed at most major establishments on the island.

VAT and tax-free
Norfolk is an external tax-exempt territory of Australia. There is no income tax or income tax here. Alcoholic drinks and tobacco products are about 20-50% cheaper than on the mainland.

There are more than 70 different duty-free shops on the island, offering goods with a discount of up to 30%. In order to take advantage of the tax-free regime, it is necessary to present a passport and a plane ticket when buying.
