Amboseli National Park

The park is located 220 km from Nairobi.
Amboseli (a very small park by Kenyan standards – only 392 sq. km) is one of the most beautiful places in the country due to Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m) visible in the distance. Although the volcano is located in Tanzania, Amboseli offers the best view of its snow-capped peaks. In the hot part of the day, the volcano is hidden by clouds, but it appears in all its splendor at dusk and at sunrise.
This is one of the most visited and popular parks in Kenya. Amboseli was created to protect representatives of the magnificent five animals of Africa – the leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, elephant and lion. Also here you can see cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, gerenuks, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, Thompson’s gazelles and Grant’s gazelles.
Amboseli is the place to get the most classic African safari experience.
Lookout hill, located in the southern part of the park, just a few kilometers from the airstrip intended for small charters. This hill is interesting because being on it, you have a 360 ° view of the entire park and the mountains surrounding it. It is also the only place where you can get out of the car and walk around the territory on your own.
Ten thousand years ago, Amboseli Lake was a perpetual lake up to 40 m deep. Now it is a flat dry earth surface and only during prolonged and heavy rains the lake is periodically filled with water again. The so-called bottom is covered with alkaline sediment, which rises into the atmosphere with gusts of wind and gives the impression of dustiness.

Amboseli differs from other parks in Kenya with an abundance of elephants. This number is not found in any other of the country’s national parks. The swampy terrain near the slopes of Kilimanjaro is excellent for gray giants and provides them with everything necessary for a full existence.

How to get there: the best way to get there is by car; 238 km from Nairobi.

When: A good safari in Amboseli National Park in October and November, January and February.
For those who are not afraid to get wet and maybe even get stuck in the mud, the best time to visit the Amboseli National Park is during the rainy season – in December and in March, May and especially April. This is the time of the heaviest rains in Kenya, so for those who would rather get wet strongly, it is better to go in late May – early June, but not later.
