Safari code of conduct

In order not to harm the surrounding wild nature of Africa and to protect ourselves, it is necessary to learn the basic rules of behavior on a safari in national parks and reserves in advance before the trip.

Rules of conduct on a safari in Africa
– You must strictly follow the instructions of the guide or ranger.

– Stay always close to your guide and group on a walking safari.

– Smoking during the safari is limited, and in some national parks it is completely prohibited.

– Alcoholic beverages are not allowed during the safari.

– It is forbidden to leave the vehicle during the car safari. Getting out of the car is allowed only on specially equipped sites. The checkpoints of all parks are equipped with toilets, so it is better to visit them before starting the tour.

– All deviations from the safari route must be agreed with the guide and can be carried out if it is allowed in the area. – If you are traveling alone in the park, do not leave the marked routes if it is prohibited by the conditions of your stay there. Driving off the beaten path causes great harm to the surrounding ecosystem: the vegetation layer of the savannah is destroyed and the surface layer of the soil is disturbed.

– If you are traveling by car, you must obey the speed limit and return to the lodge or camp before dusk. In most parks in Africa, the speed limit is 40 km/h. It must be strictly observed, because at any moment an animal may appear in front of the car. Staying in the parks at night, outside specially designated places, is prohibited. At night, rangers go around the entire territory and write out large fines for this violation.

– When watching animals from a close distance, you do not need to wave your arms and stick them out of the windows of the car, as well as make sudden movements. Stopping to observe the fauna of the savannas, you need to turn off the car engine and talk very quietly. All animals do not like sharp sounds, so that they are not afraid and you have great photos on a safari, you must follow this rule.

– When stopping to observe animals, do not obstruct the view of other tourists. This one of the rules of unspoken etiquette of behavior on a safari.

– It is strictly forbidden to feed animals and birds. A person for them should not be associated with food. Feeding animals will seriously damage their diet and make them too dependent on humans. Large fines are levied for feeding animals and birds in national parks and reserves.

– It is forbidden to throw any objects at animals to attract their attention.

– When leaving the car, carefully look under your feet and around. It is better to stop downwind, as the animals will not smell you and will behave naturally.

– Do not run near wild animals as they may take the challenge and attack.

– Don’t get too close to elephants, especially lone males and baby elephants.

– During a boat safari, keep a sufficient distance from the animals on the banks of the rivers.

– Don’t walk between the water and the hippo as it might panic and attack you.

– Do not deliberately drive animals from their locations, including to get a better picture in your opinion. Before you continue your trip, make sure that the animals have returned to their usual activities and have stopped paying attention to you.

– Don’t talk or laugh too loudly.

– In lodges, during your absence and at night, do not leave windows open without screens.

– When spending the night in a tented camp, always close the entrance to the tent. This правило не только защитит от насекомых, но и от хищников, которых приоткрытый вход может заинтересовать.

– Do not store food in the tent in which you sleep. Animals, sensing the smell of food, can dig or ambush near the tent.

– It is forbidden to throw garbage in the parks. All waste generated during the trip must be kept in the car and thrown away only when leaving the territory of the reserves in specially designated places. Also, during the safari, matches and cigarette butts should not be thrown away in the parks, as they can cause fires.

– It is forbidden to take out stones, branches, tear and dig up plants, etc. from national parks and reserves. Do not disturb the existing ecosystem.

By following these simple rules of conduct on a safari, your trip will be interesting and safe!
