Medical care in the Czech Republic

The level of medical care in the Czech Republic is quite high, at least higher than in Russia, Ukraine and the former CIS countries. However, it is undeniably lower than in Germany, Austria and other developed Western countries.

Many foreigners go to the Czech Republic for treatment on a contractual basis, especially from Eastern European countries (Russia and the former CIS, neighboring Poland and Slovakia). In addition to the actual treatment, foreigners willingly visit the mineral water resorts of the Czech Republic. Obstetrics in the Czech Republic is also very popular among foreigners. The cosmetology area is also quite developed, as is plastic surgery.

However, the Czech Republic has its own problems in medicine, which the country and in particular the government cannot solve for many years, namely:

If you are a tourist, you must have insurance valid in the Schengen area with a coverage amount of at least 30,000 euros. This is usually insurance against accidents, that is, if you suddenly break your arm or leg, get hurt or poisoned. In this case, your travel insurance will cover all treatment costs. If you have an attack of a chronic disease in the Czech Republic, then most likely the insurance company will refuse to bear the costs of your treatment and you will have to cover them yourself. Keep this in mind. Compulsory travel insurance should always be with the tourist, like his passport. If something happens and you end up in a hospital or a doctor, you will always be asked to show your medical policy.
