El-Khaur

Al-Hawr (Arabic الخور‎) is a city on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the northern part of Qatar, 50 km north of the country’s capital, Doha. El-Khaur is the capital of the municipality of the same name (English) Russian. The population is 31,547 people (as of 2008).
The name of the city is translated from Persian as “bay” because of its location. Al-Hawr serves as a place of residence and work for many oil industry workers due to the city’s proximity to the oil and gas fields of Qatar.

History
Al-Khaur was ruled by the Al-Mohanadi tribe until the independence of Qatar in 1971. It is believed that the Al-Mohanadi tribe was formed in the 18th century. The tribe consists of 7 Bedouin clans. And at the present time, most of the townspeople of Al-Khor belong to this tribe.

Description
Al-Khaur is known for its Al-Sultan beach hotel & resort – a palace converted into a hotel, as well as a large concentration of modern and historical mosques. The main economic branch of the city is fishing. Several beautiful beaches in the vicinity of El Khor contribute to the construction of residences here for both residents of the city itself and residents from metropolitan Doha.
