Internet

Internet cafe
Internet cafes are almost everywhere and are no different from ours. In tourist places, they are stumbled quite densely and they are easy to find by the Internet sign. Usually Internet cafes can be found near railway stations and bus stations, in shopping districts, in the central part of cities. The services of such establishments cost from 20 to 40 rupees per hour (payment from 10 minutes) and are paid regardless of traffic and whether there was a connection. Almost everywhere you can connect your laptop to the local network with a cable. In cities where there are problems with electricity, before sitting down at the computer, it is worth checking if there is a connect. In places where there are a lot of tourists, everything can be done without a bureaucratic procedure. But the rules require you to sign up for a book and fill in your details, including your passport and visa number, so don’t forget your passport when you go to the internet cafe.

In an Internet cafe, you can burn a disc and print documents on a printer. DVD / CD – 100-150 rupees, including a blank, printout – 3-10 rupees.

WiFi
Во многих ресторанчиках в туристических местах есть WiFi. As a rule, you can use it by simply placing an order, but in some places you need to pay for the Internet separately. It costs, as in an Internet cafe, from 20 to 40 rupees per hour. В приличных гостиницах уже почти везде работает WiFi, включенный в стоимость номера.

Mobile Internet
All mobile operators in India provide Internet access through the mobile phone. This service is disabled by default. In order to activate it, you need to fill out the paperwork in the official representative office of the operator and order it. The cost of an unlimited package is about 400 rupees, the usual speed for EDGE/GPRS is max 256/64 kB/sec. However, such speed is achieved only in large cities and resorts, at “inconvenient times”.

3G coverage in India is developing rapidly. All leading operators offer prepaid Internet access packages. It is possible that your 3G phone or modem will be suitable to use it.
Reliance Modem costs Rs 1399, you can use our 3G modem. To complete the package, you need a passport, 2 photographs, paper from the hotel. It costs from 180 rupees for 250 megabytes to 3000 rupees for 18 gigabytes. There are packages with payment for traffic. It works great in Goa and Maharashtra, in Bombay the real speed is more than 2 megabits. In other states, the speed leaves much to be desired, but, as a rule, is significantly more stable and faster than conventional EDGE / GPRS on phone sims.

Airtel. Airtel used to be the best choice for travelers in India, but now, in our experience, Reliance is much more enjoyable. We did not try to connect to the Internet from Airtel, but according to the assurances of the office staff, in order to issue a prepaid package, you need the same documents as for a SIM card. And Airtel has nice modems :)

Idea offers 3G prepaid packages from Rs 1 per megabyte to Rs 1025 per 5 gig. Conditions of connection and dipping have not been investigated :(

Mobile Internet can be used throughout India without roaming fees. You need to connect, buy and register mobile Internet only at the operator’s office, and not at the “company representative”.
