Health

The main impetus for improving the health of the population was the improvement in the quality of drinking water, which until recently was a source of infectious diseases.

The deplorable quality of drinking water allowed tropical fever and leptospirosis to spread in mass quantities among the population. To date, this problem has not been fully resolved, but the government understands the importance of providing its citizens with clean drinking water, and therefore is doing everything possible for this.

About hospitals and doctors in Bangladesh

The level of medical institutions in the country is quite low, and this is evidenced by reliable information that Bangladesh is the main recipient of foreign medical and humanitarian aid in South Asia.

Relatively modern clinics exist only in some major cities of the country, including Dhaka and Chittagong. In the rest of the country, a network of small outpatient clinics has been deployed, which do not meet European quality standards for the medical system, but provide first rescue aid and a number of other simple medical services.

Strange as it may seem, but Bangladeshi doctors have good medical qualifications, most of them graduated from prestigious Western medical schools, but, unfortunately, not all, or rather half of them, do not return to work in the country.

They prefer to work in the best clinics in the world, where wages and working conditions are several times better than in Bangladesh. Therefore, in the country itself, there is an acute shortage of doctors and other qualified medical personnel, especially middle and lower levels, as well as medical equipment.

The deplorable state of medicine

Of course, the health care system in the country leaves much to be desired. Its level is primarily affected by the lack of funding from government agencies. The immigration of highly qualified specialists cannot but affect the level of medical care, which is at best poorly professional.

If we talk about public hospitals, then the sight alone can repel a patient who is unaccustomed to the unsanitary conditions that reign there – monstrous litter and critical overcrowding.

Therefore, the class of the population that can afford private clinics and hospitals turns to this sector of medical care – it for the most part, the exclusion of such poor quality of medical services. True, it is immediately worth noting that services in the private sector are much more expensive.

Due to the obvious shortcomings of the healthcare system, many local residents still use traditional methods of healing, which in some cases are much more effective than the medical services provided.

Bangladesh United Hospital

Of all the hospitals in the country, it is the Bangladesh United Hospital that can be called modern, provided with the necessary equipment and medical personnel.

It includes 450 beds in wards, intensive care rooms, departments of gynecology, orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, surgery, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, laboratories and physical rooms, as well as many other departments for various kinds of diseases.

Information for tourists

Bangladesh is one of the countries with an unfavorable epidemiological situation. Before traveling to the country, vaccination against hepatitis A, B, E, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, typhoid, tetanus, diphtheria, and malaria is recommended. The risk of contracting the last disease on this list is high, as the constant humidity during the rainy season makes it possible for the malaria mosquito to develop.

Currently, an optional vaccination before traveling to Bangladesh is the cholera vaccine, but this does not mean that the danger of this disease has disappeared.

In addition, a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is required for all arriving by sea or air from areas where this disease is spread, if the time spent there exceeded 6 days. Otherwise, local authorities have the right to detain the passenger for quarantine for up to 6 days.

It is highly recommended that you have an international health insurance policy that covers expenses in case of an emergency evacuation from the territory of the Republic of Bangladesh by air.

The main feature of the country is that medical services are paid, but foreigners can get the necessary medical care only in private hospitals and only if they have checks or cash. In Bangladesh, there is no system of medical care for foreign citizens on insurance policies.

More precisely, it is, but only in some hospitals, and insurance companies often agree to pay for medical services only in the cheapest hospitals, that is, the risk of getting into a public hospital is quite high if you want to use insurance.

In general, all costs related to medical care are paid independently.
