Cellular communication

In Bangladesh, over the past 10 years, the cellular communication system has developed very rapidly. Today there are more than 40 million subscribers in the country.

The inconvenience is created by a large number of small operators and a complex tariff system. It is very difficult for foreign tourists to use SIM cards of local operators. But the prices are quite reasonable.

It is best to use higher quality and less expensive international roaming. Such services are offered by all major operators in the country: GrameenPhone Ltd (GSM 900/1800), Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd (GSM 900), TM International (AKTEL, GSM 900), Orascom Telecom Bangladesh Ltd (Banglalink, GSM 900) and Warid Telecom International Ltd (GSM 1800).

However, communication covers mainly only the largest cities. There is practically no stable connection in the province. The exceptions are the Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar regions, as well as the southwestern regions, which are located on the border with India. In the latter, the cellular operators of Calcutta are well received.

Telephone communications
Bangladesh’s telephone system is not perfect – there are only 1.1 million subscribers in the whole country. At the same time, the quality of communication here does not meet modern standards at all. Public telephones can be found in the main shopping areas, some shops and post offices in major cities. In all other cases, they will have to be looked for, and many of them are located in some public organizations and institutions, so there is simply no access to them outside working hours.
