Gimcheon

Gimcheon (Korean: 김천시?, 金泉市?, Gimcheon-si) is a city in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, South Korea. It is located on the main highway of the country – the Seoul-Busan highway.

History
In the Samhan era, on the territory of modern Gimcheon, there were tribal unions called Kammunguk and Chujomaguk, which during the time of the Three States were united by the state of Silla into a single administrative unit of Kammunju, which during the United Silla was upgraded to a county and became known as Geryonggun (Gaeryong County). Gradually growing and absorbing neighboring settlements, Karyeong existed until 1914, when it was merged with the surrounding territories, forming Gimcheongun (Gimcheon County). In 1949, Gimcheon received city (si) status. Since then, the city has undergone minor administrative reforms and changed its borders several times (the last change was in 2000).

It borders Gyeongsangnam-do and Chungcheongbuk-do provinces to the west and south, Sangju to the north, Gumi to the east and southeast, and Seonju to the southwest.
