Uhai

Wuhai (Chinese 乌海, pinyin: Wūhǎi, Mong. Uhai.svg Üqai) is an urban district in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (PRC). Located on the Yellow River between the Gobi and Ordos deserts. The name is formed from the first hieroglyphs of the names Uda and Haibowan.

History
Since ancient times, these places have been the scene of confrontation between the Chinese and nomads.
In 1955, the Zhozishan Mining District (桌子山矿区) was created in the Ih-Zuu aimag (later transformed into the Ordos urban district), which received self-government in April 1959.
In November 1958, the village of Uda (乌达镇) was founded in Alashan khoshun.
In 1961, by the decision of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the settlement of Uda became the urban county of Uda of Bayan-Nur aimag, and the Zhozishan mining district became the city of Haibovan of Ikh-Zuu aimag.
In 1976, Uda and Haibowan were merged into the Wuhai urban district, subordinated directly to the government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
