Parkent

Parkent (Uzb. Parkent) is a city (since 1984) in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, located 47 kilometers northeast of Tashkent. The administrative center of the Parkent district (fog).
Its location can be seen on the map of the Tashkent region (viloyat) shown here.
As of 1991, 34 thousand people lived in it. There are enterprises of the light (textile, clothing) and food industries.

Sights of the city
Near the city there are several rest houses: Kumyshkan, Sumcha and Sukok. Also, not far from Parkent there is a division of the Physical-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and a technical complex – a solar concentrator, for using the sun’s energy concentrated with the help of special mirrors for various applied purposes – the manufacture of refractory alloys, etc.

Interesting events related to the city
In the summer of 1989, inter-ethnic unrest took place in Parkent. And by that time, the newly elected first secretary of the Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR, and later the first president of independent Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, personally addressed a crowd of excited demonstrators demanding to disperse.
