Tocoa

Tocoa (Spanish: Tocoa) is a city and municipality in the northern part of Honduras, in the department of Colon.

Geographic location
The city is located on the right bank of the Aguan River, 61 km southwest of Trujillo, 30 km northeast of Sava, 70 km from Olanchito and 100 km from La Ceiba. The absolute height is 53 meters above sea level.

The climate of the city is hot tropical, with an average annual temperature of 29 °C. The rainy season lasts from June to January.

History and Government
Tokoa was founded in 1871 and organized as a municipality in 1892.
Juan J Evangelista was the first mayor.
Currently, 2014-2018 the municipal council is headed by Adan Funez.

Services
There are several businesses, banks, companies, local and international organizations (World Food Program), an engineering Christian non-profit organization offering assistance to people in need in areas such as clean water, sanitation, health and hygiene, etc., which has its regional office in Latin America Tocoa and its World Headquarters in Charleston, South Carolina.
