La Esperanza

La Esperanza (Spanish: La Esperanza) is a city in the southwest of Honduras, the administrative center of the municipality of Intibucá. Founded September 22, 1848. Population – 12 502 people. Area – 157 sq. km. It is separated from the city of Intibuca by just one street.

History
Previously, there were two settlements on the territory of the city: Lenterkala and Eramani. Two Indian tribes lived there: the Lenca (they still live on the outskirts of the city) and the Maya (they no longer live). In 1647, the Spaniard Francisco de la Cerda clearly separated them. The population increased, and on September 22, 1848, La Esperanza received city status.

Geographic location
Located 1700 meters above sea level, about 80 km from the capital – Tegucigalpa.

Climate
The warmest month is March, and the coldest month is October.

Tourism

Dvof Forist is a park-reserve. There are dwarf trees growing there.
