Events and activities

Every year on December 21, the resort celebrates World Snowboard Day. Festive events are held in Avoriaz.

Portes du Soleil hosts dog sled races in January, and Chavanette Session and Alpine skiing competitions in February, in which athletes descend the steep slope of the region called the Swiss Wall.

In addition to sporting events, the resort town of Avoriaz hosts the Fantastic Film Festival every January.

On vacation in Portes du Soleil, we recommend that tourists visit the Morzine Ethnographic Museum, which is located in the historic center of the town. The exposition of the museum tells about the life, way of life and traditions of local residents. There are also exhibits dedicated to the Duchy of Savoy.

The main natural attraction of the resort area is Lake Geneva. This reservoir is considered the largest freshwater lake in the Alps (Alps) and one of the largest in all of Europe (Europe). The lake has the shape of a crescent and is divided into Big (Grand Geneva Lake) and Small Lake (Small Geneva Lake).

Going on a trip to the lake, tourists can visit the Chillon Castle, built on a coastal cliff. The architectural ensemble of this castle includes 25 buildings. The part of the castle, located by the road, is a stone wall fortification with 3 towers, and its residential part faces the reservoir.

Fans of excursion tourism will be offered to make a sightseeing trip to Geneva. During the tour, tourists will have the opportunity to visit St. Peter’s Cathedral, which was founded in 1160. The exterior of the building combines elements of the Romanesque and Gothic styles, and the facade is made in the style of classicism and decorated with columns.

A popular place among vacationers and their fellow travelers is Nations Square, located in the city center. Fountains and the Broken Chair Monument are installed on the square. The square acquires a special charm at nightfall, when decorative lights are turned on.

In Geneva is the so-called Palace of Nations (Palace of Nations), which includes a whole complex of UN buildings. The palace was founded in 1929. The interiors of the buildings are decorated with canvases, frescoes, stained-glass windows and sculptures. The excursion program includes a visit to the Palais, which houses the famous Conference Room.

Of particular historical and architectural value is the Lille Tower, built in the 13th century as part of the fortifications. Of the entire castle complex, only this tower has survived to this day. At the moment, the building is recognized as one of the key monuments of the cultural heritage of Geneva.

In all cities of the Portes du Soleil resort region, there are shops where travelers can buy everything necessary for recreation and sports.

In Morzine, you can go shopping more thoroughly. The city has several jewelry stores, 7 food supermarkets, where you can buy both middle-class clothing and designer items.

Warm up before skiing or just go in for sports at the Espace Tonic Sport Center.

In Les Gets, there is an entertainment center with an ice rink, a swimming pool and two discos, where tourists and their fellow travelers can relax and have fun after a busy day spent on the slopes

Avoriaz is home to Aquariaz waterpark, the highest water park in the world. The area of the institution is 2,400 m². On the territory of the water park, zones of caves, tropical forests and grottoes have been created. More than 1,500 different plants grow in Aquariaz waterpark. Within the limits of this water park, various attractions are open, designed for visitors of all ages, as well as special water attractions for thrill-seekers.
