Chad is one of the poorest countries not only in Africa but throughout the world. The economy of Chad for many years was completely subordinated to the interests of France, which for decades pumped out raw materials for industry from Chad and practically did not take any action to develop the economy. Agriculture, animal husbandry, and fishing are areas of activity where up to 85% of the economically active population is employed. The level of technical equipment of agriculture is also low. They grow millet, peanuts, sorghum and rice, cotton. The export item is gum arabic. Its annual collection is 200 tons.

Chad ranks first in Central Africa in terms of livestock. Industry is poorly developed and is represented by enterprises processing agricultural raw materials. The food and flavor industry is represented by livestock products processing enterprises, flour mills and breweries.

The Republic of Chad is going through a difficult time. Poverty and hunger reign in the country. And this is with a rapidly growing population. New industrial and civil facilities are being built, political and business contacts are being established with foreign countries. But at present, Chad is not quite able to solve economic and social problems on its own, so Chad remains tied to the countries of the West.

Prospects for the development of the economy are connected with the development of oil fields discovered in the basin of Lake Ch. and in the Doba region.
