Winter in Bulgaria is where to relax

The calendar winter coming in December brings a full-fledged winter to Bulgaria. It often rains and foggy days, and in the mountains a large layer of snow falls, ski slopes open. In the central part of the country, and even more so in the mountainous regions, the temperature is already dropping below zero. However, on the coast, for example, in Burgas and Varna, the air in December is warmed up to +8 degrees.

Swimming is no longer possible, but while away the evening on the coast with a glass of mulled wine made from excellent local wine – why not? Seaside resorts are empty in December and accommodation prices are more than cheap, but there are also those who like to relax at an average daily temperature of +12 degrees. Actually, coastal resorts have been empty since mid-October, when entire “cities” are closed, such as, say, Sunny Beach. Only a small part of the hotel base is alive for those who accidentally drop in and, of course, ski resorts and hotels.

Both in December and January in Bulgaria it is best to master the ski slopes or enjoy excursions to local attractions. It must be remembered that the weather can bring an unpleasant surprise and the snowfall can be replaced by a cold wind with rain. In the capital Sofia, the temperature in January drops to -15 degrees, and on the coast it stays around 0 degrees.

In February, snowfalls are not uncommon in the central and mountainous parts of Bulgaria, the water in the Black Sea is cold and in no way suitable for swimming and does not warm up above +6 degrees. The daily temperature in Sofia and Burgas also rises to +6 degrees.

The weather, however, is obviously the right one for skiing!

Weather in spring Bulgaria: the flowering of nature

In March, there is still snow in the Bulgarian mountains, but the first greenery is already breaking through on the slopes facing the sun. The air temperature fluctuates around 0 degrees. On the coast in March, the swimming season has not yet begun, but it is already possible to walk along the sea edge at an air temperature of +10 degrees.

In the middle of spring, in April, you can still take a leisurely walk along the sea, or explore the historical quarters of Sofia or Plovdiv. Both the coast of the country and the central regions are painted with many colors of flowering trees. During the day in seaside resorts, the air warms up to +15, and the water to +13 degrees, in the center and in mountainous areas it is still about 0.

May in Bulgaria is the threshold of the holiday season. In May, it can rain on the coast, so it is recommended to study the long-term weather forecast before visiting. At night, the air temperature on the coast does not fall below +10 degrees, and during the day it overcomes the bar of +20. Water is heated in some places up to +17 degrees. The whole country is blooming and green.

Summer weather in Bulgaria: a real resort

The official swimming season on the coast of Bulgaria starts in June. On the beaches, the concentration of tourists increases sharply, the water with a temperature of +22 degrees suits almost everyone. In the air it is warm – up to +25 degrees, although in the evening and at night the temperature drops to +17. Sometimes in June in Bulgaria, vacationers can get caught in a short downpour. For walks in the mountains and around the capital of the country, it is better to take more serious things with you than shorts, the average daytime temperature rises only to +7 degrees.

A real tourist boom begins on the coast of Bulgaria in July. During the day it is already really hot on the coast – yes +27, and the water pleases with warmth – +25 degrees. In the center of the country and in the mountains during the day it is about +10 degrees, at night the temperature can drop to +4.

The swimming season on the coast of Bulgaria continues in August. The air is warmed up to +27, but the water temperature can drop to +22 degrees. But it gets warmer in the center and in the mountains, during the day it is up to +12, and at night it is a little warmer – up to +5 degrees.

Autumn in Bulgaria: capricious but glorious weather

The last hot days on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria can still be caught in September and until mid-October. Sometimes the weather in this velvety season can also set temperature records: in Vargas during the day, the thermometer can rise to +30. It is also warm in the water: the sea is warmed up to +23 – +25. But in the center and the mountains it is already noticeably colder: during the day up to +8, but at night the temperature can drop to 0. At this time, there are a lot of kids: parents specially choose the time when there is no heat and it is not necessary to check every second whether the child is protected from scorching rays. Plus – the best fruits and vegetables in Europe have ripened!

In October, the tourist flow in Bulgaria moves from the coast to the mountains. During the day, the sea is already cool and rainy, only up to +14 degrees. The mountains and valleys of the country delight with a riot of autumn colors and a mild temperature of +8 degrees. This weather is ideal for visiting the ancient cultural monuments of the country.

Weather in Bulgaria in November completely unpredictable. A rare sunny day can be replaced by a rainy one. The sea has almost cooled down, and the water temperature has dropped to +10 degrees. A little warmer and on the coast – up to +11. In the mountains, winter has not yet come, the snow has not fallen and the ski slopes are empty. The only entertainment this month in Bulgaria is city tours.

In any month of the year, you can choose an activity to your liking. In summer and early autumn – the gentle Black Sea coast and beach holidays, from December to April – mountain slopes and skiing. Well, in between the beach and mountain seasons, you can leisurely explore the sights of this ancient country.
