Customs

The work of customs on Christmas Island is regulated by the same rules as in Australia.

It is strictly forbidden to import plants and soils here, so the clothes and shoes of those entering must be thoroughly cleaned.

Also, the import of medicines to the island is strictly limited, and special permits must be issued for those that are necessary for a particular traveler.

There are no restrictions on the import of money, but the amount exceeding ten thousand Australian dollars must be included in the declaration.

The following can be imported duty-free to Christmas Island:

two hundred and fifty cigarettes or an equivalent amount of smoking tobacco;
one thousand one hundred and twenty five milliliters of alcohol.
For cigarettes and alcohol, the norm is given for one person who has reached the age of majority.

It should be borne in mind that if several family members travel together, then for them the duty-free rate is summed up
