Makhis

Mahis (Arabic: ماحص‎) is a city in northwestern Jordan, in the Al-Balqa governorate. Located about 10 km west of Amman, at an altitude of 810 m above sea level.

The population of the city is about 14,000 people. The city is of great religious importance, since near it in the valley of Wadi Shuaib (2 km west of the city) there is one of the alleged graves of the prophet Shuaib, who in the biblical tradition corresponds to Jethro. In Mahis is the Temple of Khidr, which is a one-room building surrounded by a small garden.

The economy is based mainly on agriculture, the main products of which are wheat, barley, tobacco, grapes, olives, pomegranates. Kaolinite clay is being mined.
