As-Salt

As-Salt, formerly Es-Salt, modern. Es-Salt (Arabic: السلط‎) is a city in northwestern Jordan. The administrative center of the governorate of Al-Balqa. The population of the city according to 2004 data is about 71,000 people; the population of the entire municipality in 2006 is about 97,000 people, of which 70% are Muslims and 30% are Christians. The municipality of As-Salt is administratively divided into 9 districts.

Al-Salt is located 29 kilometers northwest of the center of Amman and is only about half an hour away by car. The city is located on the El-Balqa hill, at an altitude of 758 m above sea level, not far from the Jordan Valley.

Notable residents
Jordanian Prime Minister Sulaiman al-Nabulsi was born in Al-Salta.
