Cellular

3rd generation coverage is available almost everywhere, except for the remote nooks and crannies of mountainous terrain, where some operators catch very poorly, and some do not work at all.

Tariffs in Georgia are not expensive, especially within the network and when connecting different packages. In addition, operators provide favorable rates abroad, so calls from a local mobile number to your homeland will definitely cost less than in roaming.

As for the mobile operators themselves, there are only three of them: the familiar Beeline, Geocell and Magti.

SIM cards

Arriving in Batumi, be sure to get a local SIM card, at least to contact friends, a hotel, a taxi or find out about an excursion.

The price of the card is from 1 to 5 lari and depends on the amount on the account. For example, if you buy a card for 2 lari, then you must have 2 lari on your account. Well, then the usual activation of the card, replenishment of the account, a call to the operator. The SIM card expires if it is not used at all for six months.

Very often, SIM cards are handed out to tourists at airports and train stations, do not hesitate to take them. You can take cards from different networks, and then decide which one suits you best. Often they are zero, but you can replenish your account almost everywhere, more on that below.

You can also get a starter pack in one of the information centers of the country, so mobile operators advertise themselves and distribute products. These SIM cards are always free, with zero balance and sometimes need to be issued.

And of course, you can buy a SIM card at the offices of a mobile operator. To do this, you will need an identity card and a contract. But if you do not want to sign a formal contract for short-term use, then look for a card in home shops in Batumi or in stores with mobile phones, they are still sold there without any questions.

Refill

In Batumi, there are small and slightly inconspicuous payboxes on every corner. They come in different colors, depending on the bank that serves it, but the commission is the same for all – 0.5% of the replenished amount.

All payboxes have English and most Russian for the comfort of our tourists. In principle, everything is quite simple, and even with minimal English, you can easily figure out where and what to press. The minimum amount for replenishment is 1 GEL.
