Madinat Isa

Madinat Isa (Arabic: مدينة عيسى‎) is a city in the Central Governorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain, southwest of Manama. Founded in 1963, population over 40,000 (2010).

Etymology
The city was named after Isa ibn Salman Al-Khalifa, King of Bahrain from 1961 to 1999.

History
Madinat Isa appeared thanks to state funding and was built according to the master plan. In the future, he became an example for more ambitious projects – the cities of Hamad and Fasht al-Adham. The founding ceremony of the city was held on December 16, 1963. The first residents moved into their homes in 1968.
The city is mostly inhabited by wealthy middle class people. It is built up mainly with private houses. After the 2002 elections, the city was one of the few where Islamist or right-wing parties did not receive all the mandates. One seat went to Abdnabi Salman, a representative of the former communist Democratic Bloc. In the 2006 election, ex-Harvard professor Dr. Munira Fahro of the Va’ad Party lost in disputed circumstances to Salah Ali, a representative of the Sunni Islamist Al-Menbar Party.
Until 1988, the city was one of the 12 municipalities of Bahrain, separated from the municipality of Al-Mintaka-Al-Wusta. It is currently part of the Central Governorate.
