Badulla

Badulla (Singhalese බදුල්ල, there பதுளை) is a city in the central part of Sri Lanka, the administrative center of Uva province and the district of the same name. Population – approx. 43,000 people (2004). The city is located about 230 km from Colombo and 100 km from Kandy, at an altitude of 680 m above sea level.

Known as the birthplace of prominent British Arabist Harry Philby.

Climate
The city is surrounded on almost all sides by the Badulla River and mountains. As a result, a special microclimate is created in the city and its environs, characterized by high humidity and frequent dense fogs, as well as relatively low average temperatures for this region. Daytime relative humidity in Badulla varies throughout the year from 58% in July to 85% in December

Population
According to 2004 data, the population of Badulla is 42.9 thousand people. The national composition is distributed as follows: Sinhalese – 72%, Sri Lankan Tamils ​​- 3.8%, Indian Tamils ​​18%, Murs (Arabs) – 5%, burghers – 0.1%, Malays – 0.2%. About 72% of the population of Badulla professes Buddhism, 20% – Hinduism, 5% – Islam, 1.7% – Catholicism, 0.7% – other areas of Christianity.
