Winter in Japan

In winter, the temperature variation across the regions of Japan is the most significant. And if in the center of the country during the day it is + 5 … + 8 ° С, snow rarely falls and melts quickly, then in the southernmost cities it is about + 15 … + 25 ° С (for example, + 25 ° С in January in Fukuoka), precipitation falls in the form of frequent rains.

In December, in Hokkaido and other northern regions, landscapes become truly winter: the air temperature is below zero, snowfalls are a frequent occurrence, including in the rest of the winter months. Throughout January and February in northern Japan, the weather is cold and snowy. Snow can lie until March. There is an opportunity to combine a sightseeing trip with winter sports.

Spring is the best time of the year to visit Japan. The weather pleases with warm and clear, windless days, and cherry blossoms become the main attraction.

In March, it is still cold in Hokkaido: in Sapporo during the day it is about +3 °C. In cities on the island of Honshu, temperature indicators differ: while in Yokohama the average is +5 °С, in Tokyo and Osaka it is +12…+13 °С.

In early April, it gets noticeably warmer on all the islands of the Japanese archipelago. In the north from +5 °С, and in the southern regions up to +22 °С.

In May, it is relatively dry in Hokkaido (about 55 mm of precipitation), but it is humid in the center of the country, where up to 120–140 mm of precipitation falls. The air warms up to +24 °С and above, daily temperature fluctuations are smoothed out.

In summer, the weather forecast in Japan looks disappointing: there are practically no sunny days, it is humid and rainy in all regions, although the air temperature continues to rise and reaches +26 … +30 ° С.

In June, the rainy season begins in most of the country, this month is the rainiest in Yokohama, Osaka, and Kyoto. In July, air humidity continues to increase up to 80-82%, and in August, the maximum precipitation falls in Tokyo.
