Bogd

Bogd (Mong. Bogd, lit. “sacred”) is a somon of Uverkhangay aimag in Mongolia, with its center in the village of Khovd (Kobdo), 204 km from the aimag’s capital, the city of Arvaikheera. The population is 5.3 thousand people. Located at a distance of 616 km from Ulaanbaatar.

The relief is varied, in it mountains coexist with desert steppes and deserts. The territory of the somon from northwest to southeast is crossed by mountain ranges that are part of the Gobi Altai: the eastern half of the Baga-Bogdyn-Nuruu mountain range (formerly called Small Bogdo in Russian), its highest elevation of 3419 m is located on the western border of the somon and is its high accuracy of both the mountain range and the entire sum; the mountain range Arts-Bogdyn-Nuruu (formerly called Arts-Bogdo in Russian; maximum height 2477 m) is entirely located in the central and southeastern parts of the territory of the somon.

The climate is sharply continental. The average temperature in January is -18 degrees, in July +21 degrees.

Fauna and Flora
There are gazelles, snow leopards, foxes, corsacs.

Economy and culture
There is a school, hospital, cultural and trade and service centers. There are coal deposits in the soum.
