Soly

Soli or Soli (ancient Greek Σόλοι, lat. Soli) is an ancient port city on the western part of the northern coast of the island of Cyprus. The ruins of the city are located in the vicinity of Lefka.
According to Plutarch, this city was built by a native king on the advice of Solon. According to other sources, it was a colony of Athens, who moved under Solon.

If the version about the emergence of Sols as a result of migration is correct, then it is possible that the term solecism was derived from their name in ancient rhetoric (σολοικισμός – an incorrect turn of speech). This meant the peculiarities of the speech of the inhabitants of Sol – the descendants of the first settlers – who lost the purity of the Attic dialect of the ancient Greek language, entering into relations with the local population and mixing with it. According to other assumptions, the term was formed from the name of the Cilician city of Sola.
