Time zone

The territory of Australia, the sixth largest country in the world, covers almost 7.7 million square kilometers and is located in three time zones:

Western Standard Time (AWST), UTC +8
Western Australia

Central Standard Time (ACST), UTC +9:30
northern territory
South Australia

Eastern Standard Time (AEST), UTC +10
Australian Capital Territory
Victoria
queensland
N.S.W.
Tasmania

Some islands belonging to Australia are located in other belts. Cocos (Keeling) – at UTC+6:30, Lord Howe – at UTC+10:30 (UTC+11 in summer), Norfolk – at UTC+11:00. Several villages in Western Australia (Eucla) use UTC+8:45.

Switching to “summer time”

During the summer, residents of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), moving their clocks forward one hour. Daylight saving time begins at 02:00 (AEST) on the first Sunday in October and ends at 03:00 (EST) on the first Sunday in April.

Time in Brisbane is ahead of Moscow by 6 hours, in Perth – by 4 hours. In addition, local time also varies from state to state – in Darwin and Adelaide, for example, clocks are always half an hour behind Sydney time. Thus, the time difference with Australia in Moscow is from 4 to 10 hours.
