Nueva Loja

Nueva Loja (Spanish: Nueva Loja) is a city in the northeast of Ecuador, the administrative center of the province of Sucumbios.

History
Nueva Loja was founded in the 1960s as a hub for the Texaco Oil Company. In 1972, the first line of the oil pipeline was built. From the village of oil workers, a city grew, which in 1979 became the center of the newly formed canton of Lago Agrio, and in 1989 – the capital of the province of Sucumbios.

Geography
It is the largest city in the Ecuadorian Amazon, located 20 km south of the border with Colombia.
