Comayagua

Comayagua (Spanish Comayagua, the full Spanish name is Santa María de la Nueva Valladolid de Comayagua, Santa Maria de la Nueva Valladolid de Comayagua) is a city in the central part of Honduras, 80 km northwest of the city of Tegucigalpa. The administrative center of the department of the same name.

In 1821, with the participation of Francisco Morazan, the first constitution of Honduras was proclaimed in the city.

Sights
The city was the capital of Honduras from 1537 to 1880. Many monuments of colonial architecture have been preserved, such as the Cathedral of Comayagua (1685-1711), the first church in the city of La Merced (built between 1550 and 1551), the convent of San Francisco (1584), the church of La Caridad (1590-1730), San Sebastian, Bishop’s Residence (1735).
