Coxen-Hole

Coxen Hole, also Roatan Town, is the largest city on the island of Roatan, the administrative center of the island department of Islas de la Bahia, located in the Caribbean Sea and part of Honduras. The largest and most famous tropical ocean resort on the Atlantic coast of Honduras.

General information
The city was founded in 1835 by Negro settlers from the Cayman Islands. At that time, the Islas de la Bahia – like the Cayman Islands – belonged to Great Britain and the native language of the settlers was English (its Creole version).

The main source of income for local residents is tourism.
Coxen Hole is connected by regular bus service to all settlements of the island of Roatan. The Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport is also located near the city, serving air traffic to all the islands of the archipelago. Ocean passenger port and harbor for cruise ships.
