Selous National Park

The Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected area in Tanzania. This reserve occupies 5 percent of the entire territory of the country and is located on its southeastern side.

The Selous Reserve was established in 1905 and named after Courtney Selous, who was a renowned zoologist and botanist. He devoted many years of his life to this reserve, studying it and making no small effort to preserve the local nature.
This delightful Selous Game Reserve is home to rivers, rock formations, deciduous forests and gorgeous grasslands. More than half of the elephants from all over the country live in the park. Many other animals also feel good in the reserve, including buffaloes, zebras, rhinos, lions and many other representatives of the African animal world. In total, in the Selous Game Reserve there are at least two hundred varieties of various animal species. There is also a wide variety of birds in the Selous Park. With their bright colors, they attract a lot of attention from travelers, and the birds, like exhibits in a museum, are not placed high on tree branches and pose for cameras. The main attraction among the wildlife in the reserve are the long-necked giraffes, which are more numerous here than anywhere else in Africa. Numerous swamps are filled with crocodiles, which can be seen during a water safari.

Fishing is allowed in the reserve, here you can not only safely ride a boat on the water, but also go in for exciting rafting, which is facilitated by mountain rivers.

The best time to travel to Selous is between June and October. The air temperature at this time is kept at around 25 degrees Celsius and it does not rain.
