Marsa Alam, El Quseir (Egypt))

Marsa Alam is an Egyptian resort town that is part of the Red Sea Governorate. It is located 270 km from the capital of Egypt (Egypt) Hurghada. Coral reefs and gorgeous clean beaches are great for diving, snorkeling, surfing and windsurfing. Kayak and canoe trips are organized along the coastline, and for a more comfortable sea trip, tourists are offered speedboats and yachts. Hiking, jeep safari or quad bike tours can be enjoyed through the resort’s mangroves.
In the vicinity of Marsa Alam, the oldest rock inscriptions, a tomb and a temple have been preserved. The main attraction of the resort is its natural wonders: pristine coral coast, comfortable beaches, magnificent sea lagoons, amazing marine fauna and natural reserves.

When to go
From May to October, the resorts of Marsa Alam have hot and dry weather. The air warms up to +40 °C, and the water temperature reaches +29 °C. In winter, temperatures drop by 8°. At this time, strong winds and sandstorms are often observed in the resort.
Cultural holidays in Marsa Alam are limited to the entertainment program of local hotels. Tourists who come on vacation for the New Year holidays will be able to celebrate this holiday with a real oriental flavor. In April, the Egyptians noisily celebrate the beginning of spring and the sowing season, arranging the Jam en Nessim festival. The highlight of the event is a special dish – Fesich. In July, the anniversary of the July Revolution is celebrated in all cities of the country, and on October 6, celebrations are held on the occasion of the Egyptian Army Day. These days are official holidays.
Most resorts in Egypt are focused on Russian and European tourists. Marsa Alam is no exception. In the hotels of the city, before the start of the tourist season, entertainment events are being developed that will be of interest to guests from Russia and Europe.

Attractions
The richness of the marine fauna of Marsa Alam can be appreciated in the bay of Abu Dabab. Sea cows “dugongs”, incredible sizes of turtles and moray eels – an incomplete list of amazing marine life that vacationers can meet in the bay. Beach lovers will appreciate the beach hidden in the bay, and divers will certainly enjoy sea lagoon.
The largest number of ancient rock inscriptions and drawings was collected in the dried up tributary of the Nile – the Wadi Hammamat gorge. It used to be the shortest way linking Thebes (Thebes) and the Red Sea (Red Sea). The first rock inscriptions date back to the 3rd century BC. e. and tell of Pharaoh Pepi I, who went on an expedition to get a precious stone that was supposed to decorate his pyramid in Saqqara. Fans of antiquities are advised to visit the Abu Simbel temple complex on vacation, located an hour’s drive from the village of the same name. Two ancient temples, carved into the mountain during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II, will make an unforgettable experience.
Thanks to the unique marine fauna in Marsa Alam, the largest diving center in the Red Sea has been built in the resort. Each hotel on the coast has its own diving school. Shaab Ras Turumbi reef, Shaab Abu Dabbab, Elfinstone are considered popular diving sites. Closest to the coast, Shaab Radir el Bar is rich in exotic sea creatures: whitetip sharks, giant tortoises and moray eels. Near the Shaab Abu Galawa reef, resort guests and their fellow travelers will be able to see exotic predatory fish and the wreck of the sunken boat “Tinstin”. Near the Zabargad sea cliff, it is best to dive at night, when you can see unique green corals and crocodile fish underwater.

Shopping and entertainment
Shopping in Marsa Alam will not delight those who like to buy fashionable clothes or original accessories at the resort. There are no large markets in the city, and only the most necessary things can be purchased from local merchants: towels, glasses, masks, shell jewelry and “ancient papyrus” made of bamboo.
We do not recommend buying branded clothes in boutiques at the hotel. For the sake of shopping, it is better to go to the neighboring town of El Quseir, where there are markets and several shops.
Marsa Alam’s most popular overland activity is quad biking in the Arabian Desert. Due to the hilly terrain, the safari in this area is extreme. Tourists who prefer a more relaxing holiday can go on a trip on a yacht or boat on Lake Nesser. In the hotels of the resort, vacationers will be offered to enjoy massages and spa treatments.
Boat trips from Hamata to the Kulan Islands popular with divers. Travelers can taste Mediterranean cuisine at the Wunder-Bar restaurant. Divino Port Ghalib Marina restaurant offers excellent cuisine against the backdrop of fabulous scenery, and you can taste fresh seafood at the Fish Market.
The only nightclub in the region is located between Marsa Alam and El Quseir at Port Ghalib.
