Chandigarh

Plaza Carnival is held outdoors in the central square of Sector 17 every week on Saturday evenings. The almost three-hour program draws in a lot of people and gives talented local artists the opportunity to show what they can do.

Chandigarh Carnival is a traditional three-day city carnival, which is celebrated annually on the second week of November.

Sights
Built in the middle of the last century, Chandigarh can hardly compete in exoticism with other Indian cities full of ancient monuments and relics. There is also no traditional oriental bazaar in it, with its motley crowd, which gives the atmosphere of the cities of the East a special spicy originality. Chandigarh attracts mainly those interested in modern architecture, and, first of all, the work of Le Corbusier. In Chandigarh, it is presented as vividly as anywhere else. Of the attractions worth mentioning:

The Capitol complex - an administrative complex of three monumental buildings - the Secretariat, the Assembly and the Palace of Justice - in the style of post-war modernism, which also includes the Open Hand monument (architect Le Corbusier);

Art Museum and Art Gallery - here the ancient art of India, a collection of Buddhist sculptures from different parts of Asia, samples of folk crafts are presented. In the modern art section, you can see Indian landscapes by Nicholas Roerich;

Punjab University - a monumental architectural complex of the Punjab University; designed in the same modernist style as the buildings of Le Corbusier;

The Gandhi Bhavan building is a cultural center at the Punjab University (architect Pierre Jeanneret);

Rock Garden Park - A rocky park, or rather a park of sculptures created from waste materials. It first appeared as a purely private hobby of amateur sculptor Nek Chand, and then, with the support of the city administration, became a prominent city (and even national) attraction. The park today covers an area of fifty acres (160,000 m²), and its sculptures in the spirit of folk primitivism are created mainly from industrial waste and discarded household items;

Rose Garden - Asia's largest rose park, covers an area of 27 acres and has more than 1,600 varieties of roses.

In addition, the attention of tourists is attracted by the large man-made lake Sukhna Lake (eng. Sukhna Lake) with its promenade esplanade, spread out on the northern tip of the city, not far from the Capitol, as well as numerous city parks and gardens scattered throughout the city and in the vicinity, among which are - botanical garden, zoo, chrysanthemum garden, bougainvillea garden, Shanti Kunj park, Pinjore Garden.
