Bur Safaga

Bur Safaga, Safaga, Port Safaga (Arabic سفاجا‎) is a small resort town in the Red Sea Governorate, Egypt. It is located 53 km south of Hurghada.
For many years, Bur Safaga has been an important trading port. Bur Safaga is also a passenger port with regular cruise lines to Jordan and Saudi Arabia. In addition to the port, there is an area of tourist hotels, bungalows and holiday homes. Since there are several phosphate deposits nearby, Safaga is a center for the export of phosphates. An asphalt highway with a length of 164 km connects Safaga with Qena, located in the Nile Valley.

Bur Safaga is considered one of the most important balneological centers of the country. The purest sea sand has healing properties, curing diseases of the musculoskeletal system, skin, including psoriasis.
Bur Safaga is especially popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers; In 1993, the World Windsurfing Championship was held here. In addition to water sports and sightseeing, Safaga sometimes hosts noisy night parties on the beach organized by divers and surfers. Bur Safaga can also attract fishermen and gourmets who can taste rare seafood in the city’s many restaurants.
Opposite the city is the uninhabited island of Safaga.

Transport
The nearest airport (Hurghada) is about 50 km away.
There is a large cargo seaport, a passenger seaport from where international flights depart to Jeddah and a small port of Duba (travel requires a Saudi Arabia visa).
Bur Safaga is connected to the rest of Egypt by rail, which is currently used only for freight traffic. The main cargo is phosphates mined nearby. However, now it does not work due to the fact that part of the rails was dismantled by unknown intruders in January 2014 during the period of revolutionary actions

Regular buses run to Hurghada and other cities of Egypt several times a day.
